Harpenden Local Councillors
Let’s hold our local politicians to account and get them to stand up for Harpenden!
We want our local councillors to do all they can to defend Harpenden’s Green Belt and infrastructure. We want Harpenden Town Council to lead the local opposition to L&G. We also want Harpenden District Councillors who will persuasively protect Harpenden’s interests as part of the Local Plan that is being developed.
How you can help
You can help by asking your local councillors to publicly agree with the statements below:
1. They oppose L&G’s plan and will do all they can to stop it happening*.
2. They will oppose any future attempt to expand Harpenden by building on Green Belt, eg through Local Plan housing targets.
3. (For Town councillors only) They commit to urgently sending a strong letter of objection from the Town Council to St Albans District Council about L&G’s planning application in time for this to be considered as part of the public consultation.
* Some District councillor candidates will want to be on the planning committee which will vote on L&G’s plans. In order to be eligible to vote, they may be ‘pre-disposed’ but must not be ‘pre-determined’. In other words they can express an objection based on what they know now but must say they will keep an open mind for when they receive all the final committee documents.
